Angel, Community prove too much for Van-Far

An offensive explosion in the fourth inning and some stingy work in the circle led the Lady Trojans to a 16-2 win over Van-Far on Thursday.

Community’s hitters pounded the Indians throughout the contest, racking up 16 hits, with Emma Angel, Alexis Welch, Emmi Johnson and Brooklyn Glasgow accounting for 12 of these. Welch opened the faucet in the first with a single that drove in a pair of runs. The Lady Trojans continued the onslaught in the second and third, with Angel knocking in a couple more.

In the fourth, Community’s bats caught fire. Glasgow, Emma Angel and Sarah Angel each tripled. McCailyn Drainer hit and RBI double and Johnson singled in another run. When the dust settled, the Lady Trojans had plated six and were sitting on a comfortable lead.

That’s all Emma Angel and Community’s tight defense needed. Angel allowed just the pair of runs on nine hits, striking out four along the way. Meanwhile, the Lady Trojans played flawless defense. Led by the glove of Johnson, who handled six chances, Community played errorless ball.

Angel drove in four runs on the day and got credit for the win. Van-Far’s Kaylen Culwell took the loss, allowing 12 runs over three and a third innings pitched.
