North Callaway beats South Callaway in cross-county matchup

North Callaway defended their home court against their county rival Tuesday night with a 54-50 win, led by an 18-point effort from Cody Cash.
The Thunderbirds led 25-15 at the half but South Callaway responded in the second half, outscording the T-Birds 35-29 down the stretch and pulling to within one point in the fourth quarter.
North Callaway would withstand the surge and convert on critical free throws in the final period to ensure the win.
“It’s always good to pick up the win against your county rival,” said coach Matt Miller. “I knew it would be a dogfight.”
Cash added 5 assists and 3 steals to his 18 points; Noah Scrogum had 14 points and led the team with 9 rebounds. 
Next up, Callaway heads to the South Callaway Tournament, where they are the No. 5 seed. They open play Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. again No. 4 Vienna, playing in the middle school gym.
The North Callaway junior varsity was tied 33-33 with South Callaway with just over six minutes to play but were held scoreless as South Callaway collected the 50-33 win. Sam Pezold led the Thunderbirds with 12 points; Jacob Martin had 25 for South Callaway, hitting four 3-pointers.
