Three facing drug charges

Two Mexico residents were taken into custody on Friday after law enforcement officers discovered drugs, paraphernalia and a weapon in their home. Another was arrested on similar charges Thursday.

Destinie Renae Helton, 36, and a related minor, were lodged in the Audrain County Jail for the Friday raid.

Acting on a search warrant, members of the Mexico Department of Public Safety, the Audrain County Sheriff’s Office and the East Central Drug Task Force investigated a home in the 1300 block of N. Washington Street occupied by Helton and the minor.

During the investigation, officers located and seized methamphetamine, marijuana and an assortment of items described as drug paraphernalia.

They also found a firearm on the premises.

Helton was arrested and faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, as well as possession of illegal items. Authorities say the minor was in possession of more than 11 grams of marijuana.

He was arrested and faces related charges.

A day earlier, law enforcement officers from the East Central Drug Task Force, MPSD and the sheriff’s office descended on a house in the 600 block of Baker Street in Mexico.

Again acting on a warrant, they searched the home and arrested Ray Anthony Redmond Jr. Officers report finding meth, other controlled substances and two firearms. They also believe some paraphernalia found on site was used for illegal distribution of drugs.

Redmond was placed under arrest and transported for holding in the Audrain County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including two counts of possession of controlled substances and illegal firearms.

There was an active felony warrant on Redmond for failure to appear in court on an earlier charge of driving with a revoked license.

Local law enforcement agencies regularly work alongside regional agencies and task forces. The investigation is still open and officers indicate that more people may face arrest in the case.
