Martha Jane Powell, 97, of Centralia passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Centralia, with burial to follow in the Glendale Memorial Gardens in Centralia.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church.
Martha was born in 1926 to Bennie Houchins and Ruby Pearl (Potter) Swindell.
On June 20, 1948, Martha married Clifford Powell in Centralia and he preceded her in death on April 13, 2004.
Martha is survived by her daughter, Susan Powell of Columbia, son, Jim Powell and wife Lori of Columbia; grandsons, Jordan Powell and wife Lauren, Austin Powell and wife Megan, Trent Powell, and Grant Powell all of Columbia; great-grandchildren, Jace Powell, Natalie Powell, and Hallie Powell; sister, Anna Mae Stockdall of Wellsville; many nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband Clifford, Martha was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Ralph Swindell, Mary Hockman, Raymond Swindell, Robert Swindell.
Martha was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Centralia for over 75 years, where she taught Sunday school for over sixty years and was a former chair of the bereavement dinners.
She was a member of the Centralia Garden Club, enjoyed working in the garden, canning, teaching ceramics and leading 4-H.
