Small Business Administration to host loan forgiveness webinar Sept. 10

The U.S. Small Business Administration, Kansas City District Office, and the Missouri Small Business Development Center at State Fair Community College will co-host a free Paycheck Protection Program Loan Forgiveness webinar 1:30 p.m. Sept. 10.

The one-hour webinar is designed for small business owners seeking guidance in receiving forgiveness for PPP loans as part of the coronavirus relief bill, a news release stated.

Michael McWhorter, lead lender relations specialist with the Kansas City office, will explain the forgiveness process and the requirements to obtain it.

Foundations for Soy Innovation scholarship deadline approaches

The Foundation for Soy Innovations is offering scholarships for 2021.

Students and young professionals working with soy have until Oct. 15 to apply for one of the $1,000 awards. Funds can be used for coursework, supplies, specialty training and/or participation in a professional conference, a news release stated.

The scholarships are made possible from contributions from Missouri farmers, and support students and early-career faculty who are working along the soy value chain, the release stated. This can include agronomic research to developing new soy-based products.

SSM Audrain imaging team receives 3-year MRI accreditation

The imaging team at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital — Audrain was awarded a three-year accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, Tuesday after a review by the American College of Radiology.

“This is a testament to the exceptional imaging team we have at St. Mary’s Hospital,” Vice President of Operations Becky Miller said in a news release. “They work hard every day to ensure the quality of care here is top-notch.”

Hartzler: Relief plans should be based on need

The U.S. needs to finish spending money from the first coronavirus relief bill before Congress should consider another stimulus package, U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler said Monday before a lunch meeting with the Moberly Area Economic Development Corporation.

“We need to assess the needs that are still out there,” the Harrisonville Republican said. “If we pass something it should be targeted to just meeting those needs.”

Relief bills already passed have appropriated $3 trillion dollars, with $1 trillion still to be spent, Hartzler said.

COVID-19 outbreak hits Audrain County nursing home

Forty-two active cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Thursday evening by the Audrain County Health Department at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia.

EIghteen staff and 24 residents are affected, to date. One patient has died, bringing the county’s total death count to two. The first COVID-related death was June 1.

Total cases for the county are now at 313, with 64 active. All cases are from community transmission, which means those who test positive do not know how they were exposed to the virus.

Pandemic gave Presser Arts Center chance to reassess, organize and prepare for fall

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S., every single industry had to find ways to adjust, including the arts. For Presser Performing Arts Center in Mexico, adjustments still are underway.

Some of the first steps for Presser staff was to postpone or cancel productions and in-person arts classes over the summer. Classes are returning to the center for the fall, but are limited to six to 10, depending on classroom size.
