A gas leak and electric outage reported

Twice on Wednesday the Mexico Public Safety Department had to deal with problems caused by people doing routine work.

Around 8:15 in the morning, they learned of a gas leak in the neighborhood of N. Western Street and Robinson. Responding personnel found that a construction grew struck a gas main, causing a significant leak. Officers closed N. Western in that area until Ameren could solve the problem, which took about an hour.

Just before 1 p.m., MPSD crews rushed to West Plaza to investigate a power line issue. They discovered that a tractor-trailer was behind the buildings, delivering items to a business, when it struck a low hanging electric line causing some arcing.

The driver stopped the vehicle and moved to safety. Ameren responded and removed the line from the tractor-trailer.

There were no injuries from either incident.
