Leslie Susan Rivers

Leslie Susan Rivers, 69, of Louisville, Ky., passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, after fighting her four and a half year courageous battle of cancer.

Graveside services will be on Tuesday, March 23, at Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. Bob Stanford officiating.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 2:45 pm. at Arnold Funeral Home.

Leslie was born on July 14, 1951 in Alliance, Ohio. On Oct. 21, 1972, at Love Street Christian Church in Mexico, she married Robert Myrle Rivers, Jr.

Mrs. Rivers received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Northeast Missouri State University and her specialist degree in teaching administration from the University of Missouri. She spent 13 years teaching in Missouri and another three years in Las Vegas, Nev. Her final 13 years teaching were at the Jefferson County School District in Louisville, Ky., from which she retired. Years earlier, she was the society editor for The Mexico Ledger.

Leslie had a passion for rescue animals and donated her time and money to aid in animal rescue. Leslie had several hobbies that included antiquing, traveling, music and baseball. She was an avid Cubs fan and especially enjoyed watching Cardinals versus Cubs games. Her travel was mostly in the South and West, spending the winters in Alabama. Leslie played in the St. Louis Youth Symphony. She was baptized at the Santa Fe Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, R. M. “Bob” Rivers of Louisville, Ky.; one son, Jason L. Rivers of Louisville, Ky.; one uncle, Albert Snellgrove of Stow, Ohio; as well as a host of relatives including the Benskin and Rivers families.

Leslie was preceded in death by her in-laws, Robert and Betty Rivers.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Mexico Animal Shelter. They may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson, Mexico, MO 65265.
