Patty “Pat” Alice (Smith) Brandis

Pat Brandis, 88, of Columbia, passed away April 7, 2021.

Patty “Pat” Alice (Smith) Brandis was born on Aug. 3, 1932 in Mexico, daughter of Eunice Harrison Smith and Lee Roy Smith.

Pat graduated from Fulton High School in 1950 and enjoyed a 40-year career at Kaiser Refractories, in Mexico, as an administrative assistant. She was a tenacious single mother, raising two children and caring for her disabled brother. Pat was an amazing cook and took pride in hosting family for a weekly dinner. Five or more dishes was not unusual to show up on the table, even for a casual meal. An avid card player in her later years, Pat loved to spend time playing games and doing puzzles with her neighborhood friends. Pat was a Mexico resident for 45 years and then spent 25 years in Columbia.

Survivors include her son, William Brandis of Ashland; grandchildren, Erin Chamberlain, of Golden, Colo., Kyle Gifford, of Denver, Colo., and Brett Gifford, of Kansas City, and their spouses; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marsha Gifford, brother Glyn Smith, and parents.

A private burial service for family and close friends is planned at her final place of rest, Callaway Memorial Gardens in Fulton.
