10 Questions With...Josh Deimeke

Posted

Josh Deimeke is a familiar face around Laddonia. He serves as president of the Laddonia Missouri Athletic Association and helps plan the annual Fourth of July festivities. He has been on the Board of Aldermen. He currently resides in the mayor’s seat – at least until Tuesday’s election. After three terms, Deimeke decided to return to the role of private citizen.

1. What’s the first thing you’ll do when you are no longer the mayor?

Well, that’s a good question. I haven’t figured that out yet. Probably I’ll celebrate my wife and I’s 10 year anniversary – that would be a good place to start. Then I’ll do some fishing.

2. Do you have a favorite spot to fish?

Actually, all spots are my favorite. I just like to fish. Any day fishing is a good day.

3. Is it difficult to leave politics after all this time?

I don’t think so. We have a lot of good people to fill the mayor’s seat and the Board of Aldermen. They’ll do a great job. I’m leaving at the right time.

4. You’re also leaving after dealing with COVID. How did that impact the board?

We took more precautions. You can call in now and listen to meetings. It definitely changed the way we do business.

5. Were there some positives from the pandemic?

I’ll have to think about that. It’s been a rough two years. But we all got to be at home more and spend more time with family. I’m a homebody, anyway.

6. When you look back, is there one accomplishment that stands out?

The biggest for me is finally getting funding for updating the city park.

7. Would you encourage people to run for local office?

I would absolutely encourage it. It gives you the opportunity to see what’s going on in the community and to make it better. And we need different voices and ideas.

8. This is going to be a big summer in Laddonia.

Absolutely. I think it will be a really good thing. My wife and I have been planning for two years. It’s going to be a fun weekend. Laddonia celebrating 150 years and the Fourth of July? That’s a win-win.

9. Are people from outside the area surprised at the size of the Fourth celebration?

Our show has spoken for itself. We have people come from all over. Glenn and Matt Jensen do a great job with the fireworks. And this year will be bigger.

10. So are you going to go to Aldermen meetings as a private citizen?

[Laughing] Probably not – at least not for awhile.
