Alan Dale announced as new Ledger editor

Posted

Alan Dale has assumed the post as the new managing editor of The Mexico Ledger.

Dale arrives back in the Midwest after working as a sports editor at a Houston, Texas-area daily. He has had stints as a general manager/managing editor, sports editor, news reporter and general freelancer for a total of 20 years in the region and the Northwest over that time.

His focus will be on covering major news stories involving Mexico and Audrain County and also assisting in sports coverage on those busy weekend nights.

“We’re excited to have someone with Alan’s experience directing our editorial coverage,” Ledger Publisher Tim Schmidt said. "He has proven to be a strong writer and believes in the importance of strong community journalism. It’s taken us some time to fill this position, but we wanted to make sure our new hire was the right person to take The Ledger to the next level. I have confidence Alan is the person to make The Ledger an even better community newspaper.”

Dale is a graduate of the University of Arizona and was born in Chicago, Ill., having been raised both there and in Phoenix before matriculating back to the Windy City after getting his journalism degree.

“I am an old school journalist,” Dale said. “I stay down the middle in my reporting, write what’s out there in front of me and then let my readers decide how they feel about the subject rather than trying to steer them behind curtain No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3. I have no allegiances when I am on the clock.

“My only purpose is to be fair and balanced on every subject.”

Dale has written stories in every subject including sports, general news, politics, education, business, entertainment, food and editorial.

His hobbies are reading, watching sports and hitting the gym, going to concerts and listening to his music collection and watching good movies and TV shows.
