On Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, Alan Joseph Buie, loving brother, uncle to nieces and nephew, passed away at the age of 69.

Alan was born on Dec. 14, 1950 in Mexico to Donald and Ruth Buie (deceased). Alan was a graduate of Mexico High School where he distinguished himself both academically as well as athletics. Alan then served his country in the US Navy in Inchon, South Korea before resuming his education, receiving his Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and maintained a life-long love of the Tigers. He was the editor of two small town newspapers, one in Missouri and the other in Illinois.

After leaving the field of journalism, Alan wrote about his travels on a walk of the Mississippi River from its headwaters in Minnesota to New Orleans.

The experience prompted him to change careers and become a farmer on the family farm in Monroe County where he lived until his passing. He loved learning new things and appreciated the great outdoors and was known for his quick wit, his warm personality and appreciation of the country life. A lifetime of good friends is a testament to his good nature.

He is survived by his sister, Anita of Ladue and brother, William, of Wildwood, along with nieces Kathryn, Kendall, Taylor and Reed. A service will be held in late November on his farm, contact to follow.
