It seemed as if nothing could stop Brianna Beamer. That point was hammered home to Pilot Grove again and again on Friday as the Community R6 forward scored 29 on the way to a 71-41 home win.
Beamer and the Trojans jumped out to a convincing lead in the early going, but the visitors began to come to life in the second quarter.
“We did not protect the rim very well in transition early in the game,” head coach Bob Curtis said.
No matter. Beamer – joined by Alexis Welch with 14 and Sarah Angel, who knocked down 13 – kept the tap running. A big third quarter surge silenced Pilot Grove for good, leading in an anti-climatic final period.
“I feel like the girls are really playing four quarters every night, and that is critical going into the playoffs,” Curtis noted.
The Trojans have not been victimized by mistakes very often. They are now 17-1 as post season looms and have learned to rely on the output of Welch, Beamer and Sarah Angel – whose pickpocket proclivities showed up again as she registered 3 steals on the night.
Kayla Jett dropped 5 points, Emma Hombs chimed in with 4 and Emmi Johnson, Emma Angel and Brynna Beamer creased the net with 2 each.
