Elizabeth "Betty" Layne Martin, 93, of Auxvasse, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, at her home.

Private funeral services will be held at Pickering Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmie Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery.

Betty was born on March 12, 1927 in Sedalia, the daughter of Luther and Anna Elizabeth Nichols. On Feb. 19, 1949, she married Andrew Thomas Crum, Sr. He passed away on Jan. 26, 1993. She then married Milton French Martin on June 27, 1998. He preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 2015.

Mrs. Martin was a graduate of Jefferson City High School. She was a very active member of Union Baptist Church. Later in life she also attended Bethlehem Baptist Church and Grand Prairie Baptist Church.

Betty helped with Gideons International and was involved in the Women Missionary Union (WMU). She was a member of the Red Hats. She enjoyed reading, sewing and knitting. She also loved baking and decorating her grandchildren’s birthday cakes.

Survivors include three children, Andrew T Crum, Jr. of Mexico, Joyce (Harry) Morgan of Springfield and Edward (Lori) Crum of Monroe City; seven grandchildren, Tom (Tammy) Crum of Auxvasse, Kristina (Andre) Hannon of St. Joseph, Martha (Chris) Baclesse of Mexico, Garry (Kamela) Crum of Mexico, Jerry (Ashley) Crum of Martinsburg, Andrea (Aaron) Crandall of Council Grove, Kansas, and Josh Crum of Kansas City; and eight great-grandchildren, Thomas Crum, Hayden Hannon, Connor Baclesse, Autumn Baclesse, Jacob Crum, Clayton Crum, Dalton Crum, and Daniel Crandall.

In addition to her two husbands, Betty was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Vicki Crum; one great-grandson, Trevor Crum; and three brothers, Jewell Nichols, Bill Nichols and Bruce Nichols.
