The Mexico boys brought home six golds and the team crown from the Don Dobson Invitational in Fulton on Friday. The girls squad earned two seconds.
Once again, the boys relay teams proved to be dominant.
In 4x100, Dante Billups, Evan DiBlasi, Keeley DiBlasi and Ian Williams combined for a winning time of 44.31, three-tenths ahead of the Moberly Quartet. The 4x200 side of Keeley DiBlasi, Anthony Shivers, Jordan Mitchell and Williams topped Moberly with a 1:32.19.
The 4x400 lineup recorded a 3:39.15 to clear Blair Oaks by two seconds. The team was composed of the DiBlasi brothers along with Williams and Tyler Quinlan.
Shivers had an individual win in the 200 meter dash, edging teammate Mitchell. Williams led the way in the 300 hurdles. And Raef Yager cleared 6’04.25 to capture the high jump competition.
Mitchell took silver in the 100, running side by side with Fulton’s Courtland Simmons. The distance between them could be measured with the edge of a placard. Mitchell covered the distance in 10.70, Simmons in 10.65.
Alex Wilson’s hurl of 41’02.00 earned second in the shot put, with Moberly’s Andrew Huff at 45’02.50 in the top spot. Mexico’s Caleb Prater was fourth.
Quinlan picked up bronze in the 800. His 2:15.44 was not far off winner Tyler Kloeppel of Fatima, who broke the string at 2:13.78. Race Azdell ran sixth.
Claiming top fives for Mexico were Billups in the 100 dash, who came in fifth. Evan DiBlasi took fourth in the 400. Kanye Nunnelly continued to threaten for a win in the jumps with a third in the triple.
Morgan Grubb finished third in pole vault ahead of teammate Benjamin Clampitt in fourth. Caleb Prater was just a foot off Wilson in shot put to pick up fourth. And the 4x800 team ran third.
In the girls competition, Moenaisa Sidique had a role in both silver efforts. She ran a 1:00.60 in the 400, a tick behind Blair Oaks’ Emily Sporleder’s 59.56. She then teamed with Ella Rains, Sidney Turlington and Riley Thurman for a 1:55.18 – good enough for second in the 4x200 to Blair Oaks.
Cora Ransom and Alexis Smythe joined Sidique and Turlington to take fourth in the 4x400. Messiah Simpson took home fourth in the high jump.
