Montgomery County hosted a track invitational on April 20, but Centralia had the run of the house.
The Panthers racked up 19 first place finishes – 12 in girls events, 7 for the boys – and 20 other podium spots. Liam Hill dominated the boys hurdles while Jozelynn Bostick swept the girls distance runs.
But North Callaway fared well, tallying a win, two seconds and six thirds. And Van-Far’s Hailey Lowry came away with a silver in the javelin throw.
Still, Centralia put in an impressive performance all around. In the boys sprints, Seth Beard took third in the 100 meters, edging North Callaway’s Dakota Cash off the podium by two-tenths. Beard finished second in the 200, a fraction behind Winfield’s Austin Carson.
The Panthers’ Nate Riddle crossed second in two distance runs. But North Callaway’s Lane Kimbley claimed second in the 3,200, ahead of Centralia’s Rohan Holiman. Bowling Green’s Benjamin Chance took the win.
After Hill swept the hurdles, the Panthers’ relay team brought out the broom, capturing three of the four events. Grant Erisman won the triple jump with a 42’11.75 and took second in the long jump, just five inches shy of South Callaway’s Hayden Vaught, who landed a 19’07.
Beau Gordon cleared 10’11.50 to win the pole vault. The Thunderbirds’ Joseph Crawford came in third.
In the throwing events, Centralia’s Toby Durant earned gold in discus with a toss of 124’02.50 and Xaden Lockett’s mark of 47’07.75 was tops in shot put.
Joshua Shelby of North Callaway finished third in javelin.
Bostick put on a show in the girls competition. She broke the string at 2:34.14 in the 800, 5:42.19 in the 1,600 and 12:38.90 when it came to the 3,200. And Shelby Lewis won the 400, the longest of the sprint races.
Pressley Smauch of North Callaway finished second in the 3,200.
The Panthers’ Harper Sontheimer won the 300 hurdles with a time of 50.23. She crossed second in the 100 hurdles. And the team won two of the relays.
Autumn Hawkins captured the long jump at 15’06.50 while Carter Hawkins won pole vault, topping 10’06. Her teammate, Miriam Auck, came in second.
The dominating performance continued in the throws. Baylee Beard took top spot in both the discus and shot put. North Callaway’s Trinity Brush came in third in the discus.
Van-Far’s best finish of the day came in the javelin. Lowry’s heave of 94’08.25 gave her second.
