Day 2 of the Class 3 and Class 4 state track and field championships brought the end of the track and field season along with the accomplished careers of some area athletes.

Mexico senior Morgan Grubb will be a multi-event athlete for William Woods University next year but the former all-state runner wrapped up his career with an 11th-place finish in the boys pole vault.

The Centralia girls had medals come in from various girls for a total of nine medals from the Lady Panthers to finish third in the Class 3 team standings with 36 points, which was one point behind Eldon and one point ahead of Palmyra. Shelby Lewis earned four medals from the 4x200 and 4x400 relays and the 200 and 400, Jozelynn Bostick added medals in the 1600 and 800 to her 4x800 relay medal, and Harper Sontheimer and Becca Erisman each finished the weekend with a pair of relay medals. Ellie Berendzen in the discus, Autumn Hawkins in the long jump, and Olivia Adams, Kaelyn Walters, Kenedee Moss and Annie Robinson in relays were more Lady Panther winners.

For the boys, JR Lesher hadn't run in a state track race until Friday, when he was seventh in the 1600, but finished the two days with three medals. Lesher was fifth in the 4x800 along with Rohan Holiman, who added another medal to his 800 award from the previous day, Dryst Bostick and Landon Moss.
