Centralia girls to meet Hallsville again after coming back 47-44 against Blair Oaks
The Centralia girls have another date with Hallsville for a tournament championship but had to work for it on Wednesday.
The Lady Panthers overcame an early 21-11 deficit after the first quarter against Blair Oaks in the semifinals of the Harrisburg Tournament to win 47-44. Centralia (15-3) meets Hallsville (14-3) for the championship at 6 p.m. today in what is a rematch of the Lady Panthers’ 59-28 victory over Hallsville for the Centralia tournament title.
Centralia took a 27-26 advantage into halftime after holding the Lady Falcons to five points in the second quarter. Blair Oaks seesawed ahead after a 13-8 third quarter that was erased by another five-point defensive quarter for the Lady Panthers in the fourth.
Braylin Brunkhorst led with 11 points and six rebounds, and Centralia had nine points each from Raegan Anderson, Harper Sontheimer and Jozelynn Bostick. Anderson had three steals, Sontheimer finished with seven rebounds, and Bostick had five assists and three steals.
In its first two games, Hallsville defeated Fayette 66-39 and then Harrisburg 61-50.
The boys go for the Harrisburg Tournament consolation prize at 1:30 p.m. today against Marshall after the Panthers defeated Fayette 57-39 on Thursday. Centralia lost 61-41 on Tuesday to Harrisburg in the first round.
Lady Panthers open Harrisburg Tournament with decisive 58-19 win vs Fulton
It seemed like a No. 1 seed vs No. 8 matchup based on the score.
Centralia opened the Harrisburg Tournament on Monday with a 58-19 win against Fulton (3-10), doubling up the Lady Hornets 32-16 at halftime.
The Lady Panthers’ defense was even better in the second half, outscoring Fulton 26-3.
Raegan Anderson led with 15 points and three steals, Braylin Brunkhorst followed with 12 points, Jozelynn Bostick finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, and Annie Robinson had eight points and four rebounds.
Centralia (15-3) defeated Blair Oaks 47-44 on Wednesday to advance to the championship game at 6 p.m. Saturday against Hallsville — the second tournament title game the Lady Panthers will play this season against the Lady Indians. In the Centralia tournament title game, Centralia defeated Hallsville (14-3) 59-28 in December.
