Centralia softball shuts out another conference opponent, wins 11-0 vs Clark County
Centralia softball was pretty close to perfect on Thursday at home.
The Lady Panthers maintained their perfect 6-0 Clarence Cannon Conference record after defeating Clark County 11-0, a game after shutting out South Shelby 15-0 in four innings on Monday. Against Clark County (4-18, 0-5 CCC), Kaelyn Walters pitched a near-perfect game in five innings, striking out 11 and allowing one hit to lead off the fifth inning, which also contained a Centralia error.
At the plate, Centralia (13-7, 6-0 CCC) scored in every inning. Kassena Ridgel had three RBI, Olivia Adams went 2-for-4 with a two-RBI double, Jade Lawson finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, Madi Johnson went 2-for-3 with three runs, two stolen bases and a RBI double, and Ellie Page went 2-for-2. Walters also had a RBI double.
Centralia hosts a tournament on Saturday, with its first game being at 9 a.m. against Marshall (2-14) at Bicentennial Park’s West Field.
Lady Panthers volleyball defeats Hallsville for first time since 2017
Centralia volleyball secured back-to-back victories this week at home.
The first one had special meaning, though, as the Lady Panthers defeated rival Hallsville on Tuesday in four sets (25-19, 23-25, 25-20 and 26-24) to win against the Lady Indians for the first time since 2017. Centralia then swept New Bloomfield (25-6, 25-3 and 25-13) on Thursday.
Centralia (11-4) had lost nine-straight matches to Hallsville (7-10-3), including last season’s four-set district title match. That was when the Lady Panthers took a set from the Lady Indians for the first time since the 2017 victory.
"Centralia came back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth set thanks to 12 serves in a row from Katie Carrico and won the set 26-24," head coach Julie Crum said. "It is the biggest point deficit my players have ever come back from to win in the past two seasons, and honestly, I've been following this program since 2017 because of my older daughters and never saw a comeback like this from any of those teams. "
Morgan Ross led the team with 15 kills and four blocks, Katie Carrico had 18 digs and seven service aces, Lexi Cook had 26 assists and was 21-for-21 on serves, Ryenn Gordon had eight kills, and Addison Mabrey finished with three blocks.
The Lady Panthers’ win against New Bloomfield (0-9) was their eighth sweep of the season.
Centralia plays at Mexico (3-15-1) at 7 p.m. Monday.
