The start of the Centralia track and field season couldn’t have gone much better on Thursday.
At the Monroe City Open, the boys won 10 events and the girls had the top mark in nine events.
For the boys, JR Lesher won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter run, Cayden Dunn won the 110- and 300-meter hurdles, Jesse Caballero won the high jump, Jesse Shannon and Jacob Beard each owned the top height in the pole vault, Payton Mabrey was first in the shot put, the 4x100-meter relay team of Caballero, Beard, Ben Romine, and Coulten Baker finished first, and the 4x800-meter relay team of Lesher, Rohan Holiman, Dryst Bostick and Landon Moss were victorious.
Logan Rosenfelder finished second in the long and triple jump events, Jameson Cooper was second in the discus, Evan Brumback was second in the shot put and third in the discus, Moss was second in the 800-meter run, Bostick was second in the 3,200-meter run and third in the triple jump, Andrew Whitlach was second in the high jump,
On the girls side, Shelby Lewis won the 200- and 400-meter dash, Jozelynn Bostick finished first in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter run, Kenedee Moss won the 800-meter run, Autumn Hawkins had the top distance in the long jump, Ellie Berendzen won the discus throw, the 4x400-meter relay team of Lewis, Olivia Adams, Annie Robinson and Harper Sontheimer finished first, and the 4x800-meter relay team of Bostick, Moss, Robinson and Rebecca Erisman won.
Sontheimer was second in the 300-meter hurdles and third in the 100-meter dash, Hawkins was third in the 200-meter dash, Erisman was third in the 300 hurdles and long jump, Moss was second in the 1,600-meter run, Kaelyn Walters finished second in the 100-meter dash, Rylee Palmer took second in the 3,200-meter run, Bailey Schuering finished third in the triple jump, Kaylie Ensor was the runner-up in the pole vault, Cora King took second in the shot put.
