Community R-6, MMA each send pair to state; Paris medals in two events

The Class 1 state track and field meet is in the books for Community R-6 and Paris and the same is true for Missouri Military Academy in the Class 2 meet. Small schools converged at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson on Friday and Saturday, sending their best athletes.

Paris finished the weekend with two state medals as Drew Williams finished seventh in the boys 800 on Friday and came back Saturday to anchor the sixth-place 4x800 relay that contained Clayton Duncan, Brayden DeOrnellas and Landen Chapman. The top eight finish is the first time the school has medaled at state in a 4x800 relay.

Community R-6 had two compete, with each appearing on separate days. Victoria DiSalvo wrapped up her third trip to state in as many years (freshman season lost to COVID-19) with a 14th place in the girls 300 hurdles and 16th in the girls 100 hurdles. Gavin Allen made his first trip to state in his senior season and finished 11th in the boys javelin on Saturday.

Missouri Military Academy had near misses on Friday in the 1600, with Bryson Powell finishing ninth, and in the 300 hurdles, with Gabe Canonico taking 13th.
