On Sept. 15, the Audrain County Commission approved the use of American Rescue Plan Act funds to make a loan to Audrain Community Hospital of more than $1.8 million.
Noble Health requested this loan to assist with increased costs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, these funds will be used for increased staffing costs.
“Audrain County received ARPA funds earlier in the year from the federal government,'' said commissioner, Tracy Graham. “This is what these funds are for, for assisting with things like our local hospital as it is impacted by the pandemic. Fortunately, these funds put us in a position to help without using any local tax dollars.”
“The hospital is a major employer and economic engine in Audrain County,” added presiding commissioner, Alan Winders. “Our residents need the healthcare provided locally by the hospital. We are grateful for the investments being made by Noble Health and if this loan helps them navigate the obstacles presented by these strange times, we are happy to be able to help.”
Hospital CEO Amy O’Brien said the loan will help the facility maintain services in all departments. She explained the need is likely for the short term.
The loan is interest bearing, repayable within one year and is in the amount of $1,815,660.
