Lady Trojans gets gradual offense in 48-25 win at Paris
The Community R-6 girls had to work for its points on Friday night.
The Lady Trojans won 48-25 at Paris on the Lady Coyotes’ Courtwarming night as Community increased its lead with each passing quarter after holding a 10-6 advantage after the first quarter.
Community (15-2) scored 14 points in the second quarter and then 18 points in the third quarter until it owned a 42-15 lead after the third quarter. The Lady Trojans finished with 20 steals, and Paris (4-12) had 37 turnovers.
“They really scrapped and made everything hard for about the first 11 minutes of the ballgame,” head coach Bob Curtis said. “You could tell it was Courtwarming, and they were energized to give it everything they had with the gym packed and rocking on a special night. I knew if we just weathered the storm and wore them down a bit, things would get easier. It did from that point on as I think we outscored them 32-15 in the final 21 minutes.”
Olivia Kuda led with 10 points and six rebounds, Sarah Angel had 10 points and four assists, Kylie Brooks followed with nine points, and Brooklynn Glasgow had six points.
Kameron Arnett led Paris with nine points, five rebounds and three 3-pointers, Rachel Shoemyer followed with six points, and Reese Sutton had five points and 11 rebounds.
Trojans outlast Paris 49-35 on Coyotes' Courtwarming
The Community R-6 boys knew it would be a physical brand of basketball on Friday.
The Trojans won 49-35 at Paris on the Coyotes’ Courtwarming night, knocking down free throws near the end. Tucker Robnett finished 7-for-8 from the line, and Eli Johnson was 6-for-6 at the line.
Head coach Tad Shotten said last year’s meeting with the Coyotes (7-8) was a physical game, and Friday’s contest wasn’t any different.
“We knew it was going to be a physical game,” Shotten said. “It was last year and a battle all the way through. We kept our composure tonight playing in a tough environment.”
Gavin Allen led Community (10-8) with 21 points, Eli Johnson followed with 13 points and Robnett had 10 points. Alex Williams led Paris with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Mason Edwards had 11 points.
Shotten said Robnett’s rebounding and Logan Johnson’s running offense through Paris’ pressure as well as his defense were big.
“(Logan’s) defense these last few games has really stood out,” Shotten said. “The guys fed off of that and Logan has really made that end a priority. It has trickled down to the rest of the guys.”
