Community R-6 softball earns seventh shutout in 17-0 win vs Madison
Community R-6 softball kept another team for scoring on Thursday night.
A day after the Lady Trojans won 12-0 at Westran, they defeated Central Activities Conference foe Madison (3-10, 1-3 CAC) 17-0 in six innings to post their seventh shutout of the season. The victory also kept a zero in the losing column of their conference record at 6-0.
Community (16-3) tallied 14 hits, including five extra-base hits, for an offensive attack that erupted with 10 runs in the sixth inning. Five Lady Trojans finished with multiple hits, including 3-for-5 nights for Brooklynn Glasgow and Paige Painter. Glasgow hit three doubles and had a RBI, and Painter led the team with four RBI.
Peyton Schafer went 2-for-4 with two RBI, Amy McCurdy was 2-for-4 with a RBI and Jocelyn Curtis finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Painter pitched six innings with five strikeouts, three hits and one walk.
Community opens the Paris Tournament today at 10:30 a.m. against South Shelby (6-7) on Field 2.
Lady Trojans shut out out Westran 12-0
Community R-6 softball forced Westran to make plays on Wednesday.
The Lady Trojans won 12-0 in five innings at Westran (5-7), thanks to six Lady Hornet errors that gave way to 11 unearned runs and the top three of the order reaching multiple times each.
Rylee Rafferty, Brooklyn Glasgow and Jocelyn Curtis each reached base at least two times each as Rafferty scored three runs and had a RBI without the benefit of a hit, Glasgow finished 3-for-3 with two RBI and one walk, and Curtis had two RBI, a hit and a walk. Taylor Johnson and Alyssa Beamer each had a RBI as well.
In the circle, Curtis pitched five shutout innings and allowed five hits.
Community cross country competes in Wellsville meet
The Community R-6 runners aimed for their personal bests on Monday in Wellsville.
The girls almost tied their PRs in the Wellsville meet but had the school’s highest finishes as Evelyn Scott ran to a 23rd-place time of 32:24 and Grace McCoskey was right behind her in 24th with a 32:33. The boys each achieved new PRs as Nicholas Henke finished 27th with a 26:38, and Rett Curtis was 31st with a 33:25.
Trojans backed by Welch on mound in 12-2 win at Madison
Community R-6 posted another solid start during its fall season on Thursday.
The Trojans won 12-2 in six innings in Madison (0-7) after Drake Welch struck out 12 and allowed four walks, three hits and two runs in five innings.
Mason Rohan led the offense by going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI, Mason Carroll finished 3-for-5 with two RBI, Eli Johnson went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a RBI, and Welch and Cooper Rohan each had two RBI.
The Trojans (4-3) closed out the game early with a seven-run fifth inning and a run added in the sixth inning. They sent 12 batters to the plate in the fifth, where Mason Rohan had a two-RBI double and Eli Johnson picked up his two doubles.
Community hosted La Plata (4-6) on Friday before playing in the Higbee Tournament today, starting with an 11 a.m. game against Crocker (8-4).
