Lady Trojans use pressure for points in 59-23 win at Slater
The defense was strong all night for the Community R-6 girls.
The Lady Trojans played “suffocating” defense, according to head coach Bob Curtis, on Friday to take a 30-13 halftime lead and then defeat Central Activities Conference foe Slater (1-3, 0-1 CAC) 59-23. Community (4-3, 2-0 CAC) finished with 36 points in the paint and four 3-pointers.
“We shot the ball well and got a lot of points off our press to get us started,” Curtis said. “If we shoot it well, we can compete with anybody as we have good team speed and we hit the boards well, and have been running better offense of late.”
Kylie Brooks led Community with 15 points and 11 rebounds, Peyton Beamer followed with 10 points and five assists, Alyssa Beamer had 10 points and three steals, Aaliyah Welch finished with nine points and seven rebounds, Brooklynn Glasgow had seven points, and Jocelyn Curtis had six points and six rebounds.
The Lady Trojans hosted conference foe Sturgeon (3-3, 1-0 CAC) on Tuesday before they played Harrisburg (2-4) at 2:45 p.m. at the Gary Filbert Classic in Mexico on Saturday.
