Beamers lead defense, Brooks boosts offense in Community girls 67-12 win vs Madison
The Community R-6 girls earned a decisive victory to open their Central Activities Conference schedule on Tuesday.
The Lady Trojans defeated Madison 67-12 after winning the second quarter 24-4 and being led by a Kylie Brooks double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Head coach Bob Curtis said the Lady Trojans (3-3, 1-0 CAC) had six steals in the second quarter to precede many transition points. He said sisters Peyton and Alyssa Beamer were a big reason why the defense was so strong as they each had five steals. Peyton finished with 12 points and five assists, and Alyssa had 11 points.
“The Lady Trojans’ pressure led to a lot of transition buckets with 24 points in the second quarter that was fueled by some steals at the top of the press with the Beamer sisters,” Curtis said.
Curtis said Brooks was a key weapon in the middle of the lane for Community’s half-court offense against Madison (0-5, 0-2 CAC). Jocelyn Curtis and Aaliyah Welch each added six rebounds as part of the Lady Trojans’ efforts on the boards.
Community played at conference foe Slater (1-2) on Friday night before hosting a conference game at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Sturgeon (2-3, 1-0 CAC).
