Edward Eugene Sims, 80, of Deepwater, passed away at Capital Region Medical Center on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021.

Edward was born on Dec. 29, 1940 in Mexico to Ray and Sarah (Chism) Sims. He was a 1957 graduate of Mexico High School. Edward served in the United States Navy from 1958-1962 aboard the USS Princeton.

He retired in September 1994 after 30 years of service with the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Edward was a Christian man of deep faith and was affiliated with the Assembly of God. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, rabbit hunting and mushroom hunting.

Edward is survived by the love of his life for the past 33 years, Vivian Bird of Deepwater; children, Christina Conn (Dean) of Centertown, Seth Sims (Becky) of Jefferson City, Karla Downing (Brian) of California, and Holly Foster (Rodney) of Jefferson City; siblings, Gloria Cossey of Columbia, and Steven Sims of Independence; seven grandchildren, Andrew Blankenship, Anthony Blankenship (Brittney), Skyler Sims, Cooper Sims, Alexis Gann, Justice Downing, and Regan Gatica (Patrick); two great-grandchildren, Jason Blankenship and Amicia Gatica; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Allen Sims.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at Freeman Mortuary. Masks are required while in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
