Edward Owen Lowry, 90, of Mexico, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2024, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, at St. Brendan Catholic Church with Fr. Dave Veit officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Brendan Cemetery.

Visitation is Saturday, August 24, from 12:30 -1:45 p.m. at Arnold Funeral Home.

Edward Lowry was born on May 13, 1934, in Mexico, and was the son of Edward and Margaret (Owen) Lowry. On July 9, 1960, he married Claire Ann Stuckenschneider at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Mexico.

He graduated from Mexico High School in 1953 and served as a medic in the U.S. Army, stationed in Washington, Colorado, and Texas. After his military service, Edward worked as a machinist for A.P. Green/Harbison-Walker for 46 years, retiring in 1999.

Edward was a devoted member of St. Brendan Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He had a passion for model airplanes, was an avid coin collector, and enjoyed watching old western movies. Additionally, he cherished attending his grandsons’ baseball and football games.

Survivors include his wife Claire Lowry of the home; one daughter, Liz (Dwane) Smith of Mexico; three grandchildren, Eric Lowry (Amber Grussing) of Vandalia, Jeffrey (Megan) Smith of St. Louis, and Tanner (Mackenzie) Smith of Mexico; seven great-grandchildren, Hailey Lowry, Aricka Lowry, Alexis Lowry, Michael Grussing, Lillian Smith, Margaret Smith, William Smith, plus one grandson due on August 31; one sister, Mary Lou White of Mexico; brother-in-law, Joe Stuckenschneider of Martinsburg; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Stuckenschneider  and Frances “Frankie” Stuckenschneider, both of Martinsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret Lowry; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Arens Stuckenschneider; three brothers-in-law, Kenneth White, Lawrence “Rooster” Stuckenschneider, and Gene “Pete” Stuckenschneider; and three sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Jim) Henry, Betty (Ron) Birsinger, and Adele Stuckenschneider.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Brendan School. They may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson Street, Mexico, MO 65265.
