Van-Far head coach Lucas Gibson, who graduted in 2000, didn't defeat North Callaway in his time as an Indian. His son, Gage, was instrumental this year in helping Van-Far defeat Eastern Missouri Conference foe North Callaway 28-14 on Friday at home for the program's first win against the Thunderbirds since 2003. Gage Gibson had 203 offensive yards -- including 138 rushing yards -- and finished with two touchdowns and an interception. Quarterback Nikos Connaway had 126 offensive yards, two touchdowns and an interception on defense.
North Callaway ran for 153 yards, led by Tucker Wright's 62 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. The Thunderbirds had 145 passing yards and three interceptions spread between two quarterbacks along with several penalities that stalled offensive drives.
Van-Far (2-4, 1-4 EMO) hosts Crystal City (5-1) next Friday and North Callaway (2-4, 1-3 EMO) hosts conference foe Wright City (4-2, 3-1 EMO) next Friday.
