From the Editor’s Desk: Learning to be transparent inspires growth

Posted

With only a few weeks as managing editor of the Ledger, I can honestly say I am thankful for readers like you because you care enough about your community to be engaged and concerned.

From our coverage of local community events, city and county plans, and recognizing our schools in sports and academics, the Ledger strives to be your most trusted, local source for news. A good local newspaper should celebrate the community’s accomplishments and challenge its assumptions. Of course, you don’t always like or agree with what we write, and some of you tell us so, but we respect and appreciate that.

Knowing some of the challenges of our industry, readers ask with increasing frequency how they can help make sure the free press remains vibrant. Our response is to recommend that they maintain a subscription to the newspaper or a digital subscription for full online access, support our advertisers (who, in turn, support our journalism), and encourage friends and neighbors to do the same.

I am human and have many flaws, and sometimes those flaws will show up in the news. It is not the desired outcome, but as your editor, I strive to be transparent with you. I make mistakes, as we all do, but I will always own up to my mistakes or errors. This is how we grow as a person, either personally or professionally. So, where I am very grateful for your continued support, I ask that you continue to be just as transparent with me to continue making the Ledger your community-driven local news source.
