Gerald W. Schutte, 88, of Mexico, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Pin Oaks Living Center.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 26, at Arnold Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Graham officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is Monday from 12 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Gerald Schutte was born on September 10, 1935, in Mexico, the son of George Lierheimer and Mary Margaret (Erdel) Schutte. He married Doris F. Elsenrath on November 22, 1958, also in Mexico.
Gerald was a 1953 graduate of Mexico High School and served in the National Guard for eight years. Gerald had worked for the Central Missouri Livestock Auction, but his true love was being a lifelong farmer. He farmed his family ground east of Mexico until his retirement in 1998. He was also a Pioneer Seed salesman for 25 years, where he earned many top sales awards and trips. He was born, raised, and remained an active member of the Benton City Presbyterian Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and as an Elder. Gerald was also a member of the Golden K Kiwanis, served on the MFA Exchange Board, and was involved with the Cattlemen's Association and the Pork Producers until he sold his livestock. Among all his activities, he really enjoyed spending time at the coffee shop sharing stories, and maybe a little gossip, with his farming buddies. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with friends, family, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Schutte of the home; one son, Kenny (Diana) Schutte of Mexico; one daughter, Lori (Mike) Love of Mexico; four grandchildren, Nick (Hailey) Schutte of Mexico, Jarrod (Megan) Schutte of Mexico, Zachary Love of Mexico, and Mikayla Love of Mexico; and seven great-grandchildren, Zoey, Kali, and Emmilyn Schutte, EllaBelle, Fayeth, Clara, and Frederick Schutte.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Schutte; one daughter, Sandra Schutte, who passed away in 1985; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Jayne Schutte, and Donald and Doris G. Schutte.
Memorial donations may be made to the Benton City Presbyterian Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Both may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson Street, Mexico, MO 65265.
