GFWC Mexico Women’s Club’s May meeting was held at the YMCA Café with a salad luncheon prepared by members. President Valine Perll welcomed Olivia Shafer, a sophomore from Community R-6 High School, who shared her experiences at the Sophomore Pilgrimage, Jefferson City. Sophomore Pilgrimage is a program sponsored by GFWC-Missouri to introduce students from all over Missouri to the state capital and give them a glimpse of how government works  A highlight was a tour of the Supreme Court. Olivia was accompanied by GFWC-Mexico members Connie Robley and Deborah Teague.

Maureen Hacker, Lynne Hillis and Bonnie Tillman recounted highlights from the GFWC Missouri state convention which was held in Springfield, Missouri April 28 –30. The club was recognized at the convention with numerous awards including a 70-year anniversary certificate. Hacker was installed as state recording secretary for a two year term.

Through proceeds from various fundraisers such as the recent geranium sales, this year the club was able to disburse in excess of $3,200 to 15 different entities in the area including Missouri Girls Town, Children’s Therapy School, Bright Futures and the YMCA.

Officers for 2022-24 were installed by Bev Borgeson: President Connie Robley, Vice-President Gailyn Fennewald, Recording Secretary Lara Ryan, Corresponding Secretary Julie McKeown and Treasurer Maureen Hacker.

The next meeting will be held at the YMCA Café on Monday, Sept. 12 at 12:30.
