Missouri Military Academy and North Callaway will have a presence at state golf.

The schools appeared in the same district tournament on Monday in the Class 2 District 2 competition at Norwoods Golf Club in Hannibal, coming away with one state qualifier each. MMA’s Gabriel Ontiveros finished in a tie for third after shooting an 81, or nine-over par, while North Callaway’s Davis Althiser shot a 91 to tie for 16th to just make the cut.

Ontiveros led MMA to a fifth-place team finish out of 14 schools with a score of 374 — Lutheran St. Charles and Hermann advanced teams to state with top respective scores of 339 and 347 — as Cooper Johnston finished 24th with a 94, Gaston Gastelum shot a 98 to sit 38th, Joseph Roach had a 101 for 44th, and Blake Morais had a 114 for 57th. In his first trip, Ontiveros is the first MMA state golf qualifier since Oscar Lopez Benavides went in 2021.

The senior Althiser will go to state for the first time but makes it four straight state tournaments in which a Thunderbird has qualified. North Callaway finished eighth with a score of 391 as Tucker Wright had the next highest score of 95 in 29th place, Ajay Roberts shot a 99 for 41st, Tyler Huddleston had a 106 for 51st and Connor Green had a 114 for 57th.

Ontiveros and Althiser will play on Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield in the Class 2 state tournament on May 15-16.

Mexico, Centralia

In the Class 3 District 2 tournament at Eagle Knoll Golf Course in Harrisburg, Mexico’s Aidan Knipfel and Centralia’s Travis Brooks each missed state this year by one of two strokes. Knipfel shot an 86, or 14-over par, for 21st place and Brooks had an 85 in a tie for 19th while the final state qualifiers, three Southern Boone golfers, had an 84.

Blair Oaks and Hallsville send full teams to state after finishing with top scores of 319 and 325 while Father Tolton’s Garrett McIntosh is the district champion with a 73.

Mexico finished 10th with a 386 as Jacob Stephens’ 89 was 27th, Kaiden Doebelin’s 98 was 45th, Landon Love’s 113 was 65th.

Centralia was eighth with a 373 as Cullen Bennett had an 88 for 25th, Carter Moss had an 89 for 27th, Luke Sachs had a 111 for 64th and Josh Bowne had a 126th for 69th.
