Hall of famer to head MMA athletics

Missouri Military Academy has named former Battle High School varsity basketball coach Brian Meny as athletic director.

Meny is known to many in the area as coach of Van-Far’s state championship team. He was also elected for the 2021 Missouri Basketball Hall of Fame.

As athletic director, Meny will oversee the academy’s 14 high school varsity and junior varsity athletic offerings and five middle school sports, including leadership for coaches, event scheduling, coordinating with academic staff to support cadet success and more.

“Brian brings a very high level of academic and athletic experience to MMA,” said MMA president Brigadier General Richard V. Geraci, USA (Ret). “A high energy leader that gets results, he has a proven record of success. He will lead the effort in continuing to improve our athletic programs and the professional development of our coaches.”

Meny served as Battle High School varsity basketball coach and high school physical education/health teacher from 2016 to 2021. Previously he served as basketball coach at Palmyra High School and Van-Far High School, plus held leadership positions as football, baseball and golf coach.

He also has experience as school principal and activities director.

With numerous sectional qualifier teams for Battle, Palmyra and Van-Far High schools in addition to a state champion. His other honors include recognition as the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association coach of the year, class 2 state coach of the year, KHQA/Tri-State’s coach of the year and more.

He has also served on the board of directors for the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association since 2013.

Meny holds a specialist in education in administration degree from William Woods University, a master of education in administration degree from Quincy University, and a bachelor of arts in education degree from Columbia College. He joined MMA on July 1.

Meny and his wife Sheila have been married for 28 years. They have three sons, Trevor, who attended Quincy University, playing basketball there, and is now a teacher in Columbia Public Schools; Trae, who is in the doctor of pharmacy program and playing basketball at University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis; and Tristan, who will be a freshman playing baseball at John Wood Community College in fall 2021.
