King's Daughters Home breaks ground on expansion project

A $1.2 million dollar expansion project is about to get underway at the King's Daughters Home in Mexico.

The Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce provided golden shovels for the groundbreaking ceremony that took place at the home located at 620 West Boulevard on Thursday, Dec 1.

The addition includes a 40x90 building. Some of the highlights include a large activity area where residents will be able to do daily exercise. There will be a physical therapy room, historical room and a walking trail. The expansion will be adjacent to the current building. Tree removal will start next week and the project is estimated to be completed by late July or August of 2023.

The King's Daughters Home is continuing to raise funds for this project. Donations to the Home can be made through December at https://comogives.com/product/the-kings-daughters-home/ or by giving directly to the Kings Daughter Home at 620 West Boulevard in Mexico, MO 65265.

The King's Daughters Home opened for old age women in 1905.

This is the 5th add-on in 117 years at the home. Each addition has improved care and quality of life for the ladies, who have resided at the residence according to Carol Gilman, president of the home board of directors.
