Mexico softball not only picked up a North Central Missouri Conference and Class 3 District 4 win over Moberly on Thursday but also celebrated a group of girls.
The Lady Bulldogs (14-10, 7-1 NCMC) won 6-3 for their sixth straight win over Moberly (11-12, 4-4 NCMC) on Gallop Field and then had Senior Night ceremonies for Hannah Loyd, Maddy Feger, Landri Teel, Kayleigh Samuelson and Bella Cummings. Teel had two RBIs and one double, Feger scored two runs, and Loyd and Samuelson played perfect defense that helped throw out several Moberly runners on the bases. Alyssa Miller went 2-for-3 with a RBI triple, and Keerstan Ewing pitched seven innings with nine hits, two strikeouts, two walks and one earned run.
"Throughout the game, we kept chipping away and scoring a few runs here and there," head coach Hanna Jones said. "Defensively, we did a good job of hustling after the ball, we had some diving plays that were made, and even when we dove for the ball or made a mistake, a lot of the girls would think about the next play."
Mexico plays Friday and Saturday at the Hickman Kewpie Classic in Columbia.
