Mexico softball's five seniors have been together for a long time. They said their history with each other traces back to before eighth grade. The five Lady Bulldogs were together on Wednesday on Gallop Field in Mexico to defeat North Central Missouri Conference foe Hannibal 5-2 to move the conference record to 8-1 and keep the possibility open of an outright conference title at 5 p.m. tomorrow at Class 3 No. 4 and rival Fulton.

Brooke Teel, Jo Thurman, Karlee Sefrit, Emma Cunningham and Kylie Burnett were honored on the field after the varsity victory. Teel went 2-for-4, scored three runs and increased her single-season school record stolen base total to 30 after swiping two bags. Sefrit had a RBI single, and Emma Cunningham pitched seven innings with seven hits and five strikeouts. Head coach Hanna Branch said this year's senior group is tallented with three of them playing college softball, including Thurman at University of Missouri and Teel and Sefrit both going to Central Methodist University, but the group was valuable in other ways.

"They are such a great group of girls," Branch said. "I say that because they're great teammates, they don't cause any drama on the team and represent how things we want to be done as a team ."
