Lara Rose Caran, 58, of Mexico, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020, at her home.

Memorial Services will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, at Arnold Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Stott officiating. Visitation is Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lara was born on Sept. 21, 1962 in Muncie, Ind., the daughter of Wanda Griffey. She was a 1980 graduate of Fox High School in Arnold, Missouri. She studied to become a dental hygienist and also attended two years of business school.

Mrs. Caran worked at St. Brendan Catholic School, where she was a teacher’s assistant and had taught art. Years earlier, she worked for the St. Joseph’s Foundation in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

On Sept. 21, 2019, in Mexico, she married John Adam Caran. They were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Mexico and sang in the choir together. Lara was a great singer with a beautiful voice.

Lara was amazingly creative with the touch of an interior designer. She was known for her theatrical skills and shared them with others through her involvement with Presser Performing Arts Center. She also loved nature and animals, especially her beloved dog, Oliver Wendell Caran. Oliver was like a fifth child to the Caran Family.

Survivors include her husband, John Adam Caran of the home; her mother, Wanda Reddick of Mexico; four children, Amanda (Korey) Smith of Mexico, Scott (Angela) King of Warsaw, Indiana, Cassie Hyatt (John Eggleston) of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Kaitlyn Hyatt of Mexico; six grandchildren, Korbyn Smith, Kiya Smith, Kollyn Smith, Brooklyn Lewis, Rebekah King and Matthew King; and two brothers, Robert (Helen) Shaw of Bloomington, Indiana, and Jeffrey Shaw of Festus.

Lara was preceded in death by her stepfather, John Reddick.
