MACC - Mexico announces the Bonnie Erwin nursing scholarship recipients

Moberly Area Community College - Mexico announced that three recipients have been awarded the Bonnie Erwin Nursing Scholarship. The three area students awarded scholarships are Taylor O’Connor of Mexico, Jennifer Taylor of Mexico, and Anna Gann of Wellsville.

The Bonnie Erwin Nursing Scholarship was established by the Erwin family and is presented annually to a student enrolled and in good standing in the MACC-Mexico practical nursing program. The amount of the award is a one-time payment of $1,000, which will be applied the spring semester of the program.

Steve Hagan, a representative for the Bonnie Erwin Nursing Scholarship Board, presented the awards in a socially distanced classroom ceremony that was held on Feb. 18.

“Bonnie was an LPN for many, many years earning her LPN certificate through the Mexico Area Vo-Tech Center,” said Hagan. “After her passing, the Erwin family chose to aid area students wanting to pursue a career in the nursing field.”

MACC’s practical nursing program is offered at three MACC campuses: Columbia, Mexico, and Moberly. Graduates of the program function as client caregivers under the direction of a professional registered nurse (RN) and/or licensed physician. Many graduates continue their education with MACC in the accelerated ADN (associate degree in nursing) program which enables LPNs to obtain an associate degree in nursing to become a RN.
