Moberly Area Community College Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce the endowment of a new scholarship to honor the memory of Margaret J. Sims by her late husband, Harvey E. Sims. The endowed fund of over $139,000 will be invested per the Foundation’s investment strategy, and scholarships will be paid from the interest of the fund, totaling approximately $5500 per year.
Harvey & Margaret (Tait) Sims met in the halls of Moberly Junior College in the early 1940s. They married and moved to Columbia, then to Germany with Harvey’s enlistment to serve in the Army of Occupation. Upon return to Moberly, Margaret worked as a dental assistant and developed her skill as a stained-glass artist. She was a devoted homemaker, and after moving to Des Moines, Iowa, became known in her neighborhood as “The Candy Lady” for more than three generations, handing out candy and love to area children. Margaret and Harvey had two children of their own, Scott and Elyse.
The Moberly Area Community College Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) and exists to advance, assist, and support MACC to enrich and enhance learning opportunities for students of Moberly Area Community College and the communities which it serves. The Sims family’s foresight to establish this scholarship will have an impact on MACC students for years to come.
