The Mexico girls had several standout performers Friday night in Jefferson City.

The Lady Bulldogs competed at the Capital City Girls Tournament, coming away with two first-place medals and a pair of second-place finishers and taking fourth out of 13 schools with 38.5 points — Camdenton won with 63.5 points.

Abby Bowen and Kaylynn Pehle each finished atop the podium in their respective weight classes of 125 and 115 pounds. Karisa Hayden and Alexus Johns each took second place in their respective classes of 170 and 235.

Bowen pinned all four of her opponents, with her final one at the 4:47 mark against Capital City’s Maci Albright earning her a first-place medal. Pehle started her day with a pinfall victory and then won via a 6-0 decision against Hillsboro’s Aubrey Melber and pinned her final opponent in 36 seconds.

Hayden finished with three pinfalls, with the only blemish being a 7-1 decision loss in her second match against Camdenton’s Tea De jesus-Delgado. Johns was pinned in her first match but took second place after a forfeit.

Centralia boys take second at Lafayette Fred Ross Invitational

The Centralia boys had several Panthers on the podium again but came away as the runner-up this time.

The Panthers finished second Saturday at the Lafayette Fred Ross Invitational after having two champions, three second-place finishers, and four more perform well enough the make the podium.

Seth Hasekamp ran the table at 285 pounds again for first place with four pinfalls, taking care of two in the first period. Rex Bryson was the champion at 132 pounds after three pins and a 6-1 decision victory against Aidan Schoen, of Lafayette (Wildwood).

Bryson and Brayden Dubes each earned a runner-up finish at 106 and 120 pounds, respectively. Bryson pinned twice and won via a 12-5 decision before being pinned by Calum Brown, of Lafayette (Wildwood). Brayden had three pins in the win column before losing a tight 1-0 decision to St. Clair’s Ryan Meek.

Wyatt Adkisson was also a second-place wrestler at 144 pounds as he pinned three opponents and lost a close 4-2 decision to Lebanon’s Andrew Boling.

Jesse Shannon, Ethan Adams and Kyden Wilkerson each were fourth at 132, 150 and 157, respectively. Shannon closed his day with two losses after winning via pin twice and major decision once. Adams pinned his first two opponents but was 1-2 in matches that ended via a decision — winning 5-0 against Eureka’s Braden Laughlin and losing 8-4 and 10-5 to Hunter Song, of Lafayette (Wildwood), and Blue Springs’ Greg Dillon. Wilkerson dropped two of his matches via medical forfeit but had won by pin and a 9-4 decision against Eureka’s Caden Gousetis before that.

Coulten Baker closed his day strong to finish fifth at 175 pounds after being pinned in his first match. He pinned his next three opponents and won a 17-13 decision against Ben Matheus, of Lafayette (Wildwood).

Centralia’s Shelton places third at girls Lafayette tournament

Madie Shelton earned some hardware for the Centralia girls this weekend.

Shelton finished third at 120 pounds in the Lafayette Fred Ross Invitational, going 2-1 on the day. She defeated Mera Flores, of Lafayette (Wildwood), by an 8-2 decision, and then split her final two bouts via pinfalls.

Gretchen Marriott earned two wins at 155 pounds that was almost three, following two pins and a 4-3 decision loss to Madison Patrick, of Windsor (Imperial).

Sophia Williams finished 2-3 at 125 pounds, earning two victories by pin. Abigail Barte at 135 pounds and Besan Juma at 235 pounds each earned pinfall wins in seconds.

Panthers win third straight CCC quad

The Centralia boys showed their dominance in the Clarence Cannon Conference again on Thursday night.

The Panthers defeated Palmyra 49-16, Macon 65-12 and Brookfield 51-27 in the Clarence Cannon Conference quad meet in Macon.

Brayden Dubes, Jesse Shannon, Rex Bryson, Kyden Wilkerson, Mason Adkisson and Ian Tuggle were each undefeated in their matches on Thursday. Seth Hasekamp encountered three open slots at 285 pounds.

Against Palmyra, Centralia pinned six opponents and had two major decision victories from Bryson Dubes at 106 pounds and Rex Bryson at 144 pounds.

Against Macon, the Panthers had four pins and a technical fall victory from Wilkerson at 157 pounds.

Against Brookfield, Centralia had seven pins and an 8-6 decision win from Jesse Shannon in the 132-pound match against Gambal Staddie.

On the girls side, Gretchen Marriott earned a victory at 170 pounds in a 24-18 dual loss to Macon, pinning Nevaeh Mitchell in 43 seconds.

Smaller North Callaway roster takes third in Marshall

The North Callaway boys didn’t have a full roster but had enough success for a third-place finish.

The Thunderbirds were short four kids Saturday at the Marshall Tournament but were third out of 13 varsity schools with 117 points — behind winner Brookfield’s 193 and runner-up Richmond’s 149.

Eli Henry was the champion at 157 pounds as he had two pins, a major decision and technical fall before winning via a 5-1 decision in the first-place match against Marshall’s Brenden Marquess.

Lane Kimbley and Riley Humphrey came away with second-place finishes at 132 and 138, respectively. Kimbley earned a technical fall and three pins prior to losing to Brookfield’s Gambal Staddie via a 6-0 decision for first place. Humphrey started his day with a technical fall and pin and closed his day with a pin but had a tight 3-2 decision loss to Brookfield’s Cole Weaver in the fifth round of matches.

Mathias Lobb and Caleb Rohrbach each earned third place at 165 and 215, respectively. Lobb finished 3-2 with two pins and a technical fall and Rohrbach was 3-2 with a couple of pins and an 8-4 decision win against Richmond’s Thomas Rush.

Carson Safranski was 3-1 in his matches at 150 pounds after receiving a bye, earning fourth place at the end of the tournament. He pinned three opponents and was almost undefeated as he lost a close 11-10 decision to South Callaway’s Ayden Munford.

Cashton Holloway finished 2-1 at 138 pounds for North Callaway’s junior varsity as he won by pin and defeated Weaver via a 5-3 decision.

In the girls tournament in Marshall, Brooke Giboney represented North Callaway at 105 pounds by going 2-2. She lost two matches and then won a 7-5 decision against Marshall’s Dalia Garcia before receiving a bye. Giboney then pinned Garcia to positively close her day.

Mexico boys swept, Van Horn undefeated at Cameron duals

The Mexico boys didn’t earn a team win Saturday at the Cameron Crossroad Duals, but individuals had a good weekend.

The Bulldogs dropped all five duals 48-24 to Chillicothe, 72-11 to Odessa, 72-10 to Cameron, 61-18 to Sullivan and 45-25 to Savannah. Grant Van Horn finished undefeated in his five matches, pinning two opponents, and Peyton Hoover had a winning record of 3-2 after three pinfall victories.

Van Horn earned wins at 144 and 150 pounds, winning by major decision twice and technical fall once when he didn’t have the pin.

Hoover was pinned in two of his bouts against Chillcothe and Odessa but had pinned his other three for a solid weekend.

Casey Minter was 2-2 in his matches but was undefeated at 132 pounds after a 9-6 decision win against Chillicothe’s Caden Kanniainen and a 6-3 victory against Savannah’s Bruson Jeffers. He lost both of his duals at 138 pounds.

Watson Azdell picked up two wins along with three losses at 126 pounds, pinning his Sullivan opponent.
