The North Callaway wrestling team is full of all-conference kids this season.

After competing at the Greater Missouri Conference meet Saturday in Lone Jack, North Callaway finished with 11 all-conference wrestlers — with the top four in each class earning honors. The Thunderbirds finished second out of eight schools with 201.5 points, which trailed winner Adrian’s 225.5 points.

Lane Kimbley and Caleb Rohrbach each won their respective weight class, at 132 and 215 pounds, after each finishing 5-0. Kimbley finished with four pins and a technical fall, and Rohrbach had three pins.

Finishing second was Cashton Holloway at 138 pounds (4-1, three pins), Gabe O’Neal at 144 (3-2, two pins), Carson Safranski at 150 (4-1, four pins), Eli Henry at 157 (4-1, four pins), Mathias Lobb at 165 (4-1, two pins), and Casper Safranski at 190 (4-1, four pins).

In third place were Tristan Young at 113 (4-1, three pins), Wyatt Haden at 157 (3-2, three pins), and Brooke Giboney at the girls’ 105 pounds (one pin).

Missouri Military Academy’s Griffiths returns with conference title, seven other Colonels all-conference

Missouri Military Academy’s Trae Griffiths couldn’t have a much better return as he did Saturday.

The cadet was one of eight Colonels to finish in the top four in their respective weight classes to earn all-conference honors at the Greater Missouri Conference meet Saturday in Lone Jack. Griffiths finished atop the podium at 144 pounds in what was his first meet after weeks of nagging injuries, going 4-0 with four pinfalls.

Finishing in second were Matthew Pfeifer at 106 pounds (2-1, two pins) and Sam Stevens at 126 pounds (3-1, three pins). Deonte Kerns finished third at 106 after going 1-2 with a pinfall victory.

The other all-conference Colonels, each finishing fourth, include Ryan Miles at 132 pounds (2-3, two pins), Bryson Powell at 150 (2-3, one pin), Gabe Canonico at 157 (2-3, two pins), and Ben Huynh at 285 (2-3, two pins).

As a team, MMA finished third out of eight schools with 133 points, behind Adrian and North Callaway.

Mexico boys finish 2-1, girls 0-2 in Fulton quad

The Mexico wrestling teams had plenty of competition Thursday night.

The boys and girls competed in a quad meet at Fulton. The boys defeated St. Charles West 41-21 and Fulton 45-27 and lost to Kirksville 45-26. The girls dropped its two duals, losing 30-6 to Fulton and 54-12 to St. Charles West.

For the boys, Casey Minter, Grant Van Horn and Isai Hernandez each went undefeated with three victories each. Minter won by technical fall, pin and a 6-2 decision, Van Horn had two pins and a major decision, and Hernandez had two pins and a 9-8 decision. Watson Azdell was 2-1 with a major decision and 4-2 decision win and a 9-7 decision loss.

For the girls, Abby Bowen and Alexus Johns gave the Lady Bulldogs their two match victories of the night against St. Charles West, with each winning via pinfall. Johns scored points through an open spot during the Fulton dual.

Centralia boys second, pair of girls in Brookfield tournaments

The Centralia boys and girls were in Brookfield late last week for tournaments.

The Panthers finished second as a team on Saturday at the Gary Haag Invitational and a couple of Lady Panthers each were runners-up in the girls tournament on the previous day.

For the boys, they finished second with 80 points behind winner Brookfield’s 87 points. Winning individual championships were Bryson Dubes at 106 pounds (2-1, two pins), Brayden Dubes at 120 (4-0, four pins), Rex Bryson at 138 (4-0, four pins), and Seth Hasekamp at 285 (5-0, four pins). Some of the other high-placing Panthers included Weston Ward with second at 126 (3-1, one pin), Jesse Shannon with second at 132 (3-1, two pins), Ethan Adams with third at 150 (3-2), and Ian Tuggle with third at 190 (2-2, two pins).

For the girls on Friday’s girls tournament, Madie Shelton was second in the 120-pound weight class after going 2-2 with a pin and an 8-3 decision, and Gretchen Marriott finished second at 155 after going 4-1 with three pins and an ultimate tiebreaker.

Young Mexico wrestlers shine at Moberly JV tournament

Several Mexico wrestlers that competed Saturday at the Moberly JV tournament have put in varsity time this season and used that experience to flourish at the JV tournament.

Finishing first in their respective weight classes were Keegan Koons at 120 pounds, Watson Azdell at 126, Isai Hernandez at 165, and Dalton Arndt at 215. Coming in second were Evan Wilson at 120, Jacob Johnson at 150, Quaid Grubb at 150B, Jayden Hodge at 175 and Marcos Matuz at 285. In third place were Jesus Garcia at 126, Aaron Ortiz at 157B, and David Bealler at 285B.
