The Mexico boys cross country team raced out to a winning start to the season Saturday.
The Bulldogs captured the team title at the Mexico Invitational as they had five runners place in the top 15, led by sophomore Thomas Peuster who had a fourth-place finish.
Puester completed the race in 19 minutes. Senior teammate Geoffry Penn followed in fifth in 19:16.26. Others who finished in the top 15 were senior Tyler Quinlan (13th place, 19:38.86), freshman Guy Fairchild (14th, 19:40.95) and sophomore Nathan Bull (15th, 19:47.38).
Also competing for Mexico were freshman Michael Libbert (26th, 20:40.65) and sophomore Race Azdell (31st, 20:56.04).
In the team standings, Mexico had 48 points, while Bowling Green placed second with 55 points and Centralia was third with 77 points.
St. Clair junior Case Busse was the fastest individual, winning the race in 18:12.06.
Meanwhile in the girls race, Mexico placed third with 82 points. Centralia won the team crown with 68 points, eight ahead of runner-up North Callaway.
Kali Turlington, a sophomore, had the fastest time for the Lady Bulldogs in 23:30.85. She finished in 12th. Three other teammates finished in the top 20. They were freshman Kalea Henneberry (15th, 23:37.16), senior Anna Fairchild (16th, 23:39.75) and sophomore Sidney Turlington (17th, 23:40.91). Also competing for the squad were senior Moenaisa Sidique (39th, 25:32.75), senior Miriam Gleeson (53rd, 26:38.15) and junior Haley Chastain (61st, 27:42.78).
Missouri Military Academy also competed in Saturday’s race. The boys finished ninth in the 10-team field, led by a 30th-place finish from junior Alex Thomas in 20:55.41.
In the junior varsity boys race, Mexico won the team crown over St. Clair. The Bulldogs had four runners in the top six, led by Micah Davolt in third in 22:29.98). He was followed by Mekhi Owens (fourth, 22:42.25), Albert Bingham (fifth, 22:43.05) and Emmaul Ramirez Rodriquez (sixth, 22:56.86).
