The Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce recently selected Missouri Military Academy for its quarterly small business award. According to chamber executive director Dana Keller, MMA was selected for the hard work and leadership demonstrated through its uninterrupted operation for three consecutive semesters, as well as through summer camps in 2020, in the midst of the COVID pandemic.
“The academy has done a stellar job of showing the community what it’s like to bend – and bend far – but to never break,” said Keller, addressing the academy’s faculty and staff to present the award on May 21. “It is your leadership and hard work that made it all happen.”
President Brigadier General Richard V. Geraci, USA (Ret), accepted the award on behalf of MMA.
“We are honored to be selected by the chamber for this award,” said Geraci. “We are grateful for our local partners, particularly the chamber and the Audrain County Health Department, who helped us continue to fulfill our mission to our cadets and their families by continuing in-person classroom instruction. We know our success impacts our cadets’ success, and our work also impacts the lives of many more through the employment of our faculty and staff and the health of the local economy.”
MMA employs approximately 105 faculty and staff members to provide its premier military boarding school experience focused on structure, self-discipline and accountability, for middle school and high school boys. In addition to quarterly selecting a small business of the quarter, the Chamber annually reviews the small business of the quarter honorees to select the E. Warner Williams Business Service Award, presented at the annual Commerce and Industry Dinner in October.
