Mexico City Council and Mexico School Board set dates for candidate filing

Posted

Filing begins December 6, 2022 for candidates who are qualified to run for a seat on the Mexico City Council and the Mexico School Board.

For City Council there are two seats available. The open seats currently belong to Steve Haag and Dr. Ayanna Shivers. Councilman Haag tells the Mexico Ledger  "I am planning on seeking another term and running again."

Shivers says " I will not seek another term. Six years on the council is long enough. I am still going to be working on and looking at seeing how we can make Mexico and Missouri a better place. I will be working more to educate on democracy and motivate people to become a part of the voting process . I will also focus on my non-profit Ty-Land-Anointed Life Saving Ministries."

The Mexico School Board has three positions available with three-year terms. Filing for theses positions opens up on December 6, 2022. The three positions open are currently held by Todd Yager, Kelli Teel and Kara Clovis.

Todd Yager tells the Mexico Ledger he is seeking another term.

Clovis who was elected to fulfill an expiring one year term says "There is a possibility of seeking election to a full term. Serving on the board this past year has been a great opportunity to become more involved in understanding the values, responsiveness, and overall commitment in Mexico School District. I am extremely passionate in advocating for what is best for not only my children but all children in the school district. Before fully committing to a decision to run for reelection, I feel it is necessary to have a discussion with my family and what is best for our future."

Kelli Teel says she will seek another term and run again.

According to the Mexico School District website the qualifications for a candidate are as follows:
