The Mexico City Council approved the purchase of two pieces of heavy equipment at their regular meeting on Jan. 8.
Public Works Director Kensey Russell noted that the best bid for one item came in over budget, but the other was well under — enough to bring costs within the planned capital outlay.
A v-box stainless steel slip in spreader, used for snow removal, received a low bid price of $23,664 from Knapheide Truck Equipment of Jefferson City. The amount was well below the $31,000 tag on a similar piece of equipment offered by Viking Cives Midwest, but above the $18,500 budgeted by the city.
Three lower bids did not meet published specifications.
Russell recommended accepting the bid despite the $5,164 overrun because the city saved $7,152 in its deal for a single axle dump truck to replace the Street Division’s aging 2006 model.
The truck is used to haul rock, concrete, asphalt or other heavy loads.
“We received nine bids, which was quite surprising,” Russell told the council. Less than $25,000 separated the bids, with one just over $1,000 more than the accepted price.
Scheppers International Truck Center in Jefferson City offered a 2022 International MV607 with a Henderson bed, with a two year warranty to be delivered in 180 days or less for a cost of $108,431.
The price is above the city’s budgeted amount of $105,000. But with the accepted trade-in of $11,000, the total cost fell to $97,431.
