Mexico Farmers Market is in full swing

The Mexico Farmers Market is back, having returned to the county parking lot just off the downtown square, yet another harbinger of spring.

“We had a lot of new faces combined with our old customers,” said a market spokesperson of the first weekend. “We had folks travel from Fulton and Centralia that I spoke to and likely other towns.  Everyone I talked to had a great first market day despite the weather conditions.”

Weather hasn’t been exactly ideal, but such is Missouri spring, which seldom seems to resemble the season’s idyllic perceptions. That said, market enthusiasts are glad to have it back and the downtown location seems to be popular, with its convenient location.

Last weekend, Mexico was bustling with Easter events galore, a VFW Auxiliary craft show, the Village Square Association’s Easter event, and the market itself. A 15-minute drive away, Centralia was welcoming its first Second Saturdays festival of the year.

So, there was a lot to do.

But the market dovetailed into the happenings nicely, and with the promise of spring’s greening and the procession of the harvest, it is expected to grow in subsequent editions.

Saturday, April 2 was the first round and the market will run through Oct. 29. An estimated 15 to 20 farmers market vendors are expected throughout the season. Located on the northeast corner of the square in Mexico, it runs from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. each Saturday.
