The downstairs of the Audrain County Courthouse is where several people gathered on Wednesday, Nov. 30 to hear from representatives of the Missouri Department of Transportation.
Paula Gough, district engineer for MoDOT told the audience "The Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan or (STIP) for the next five years has been funded $10 billion. Of that money $100 million has been set aside for multimodal and local programs, especially lettered routes in the Northeast District. The Northeast District includes 17 counties that runs north of the Missouri River to the Iowa state line and from Highway west to the Mississippi River."
One of the biggest areas of interest touched on during the meeting was a proposed project for a four-lane highway 54 between Mexico and Louisiana.
Gough said "The surveying process is underway and studies are being done. The point of the study is to identify what MoDOT would build and how much that costs."
Once the study is complete people will have a chance to meet with engineers to share questions and concerns. It is still unknown if the project will move forward, at this point all that is funded is a study.
