Christal Bruner, director of the Mexico-Audrain County Library, attended the Missouri Public Library Directors Conference, Dec. 1-3, 2021 in Columbia at the Daniel Boone Regional Library and the Stoney Creek Inn. Bruner attended sessions on reference services, MoreNet training, cyber security, legal issues, and new resources for continuing education. This continuing education event was sponsored by the Missouri Public Library Directors.
This training trip was 90 percent paid for with a Show Me Steps to Continuing Education grant, and local funding paid the other 10 percent. This grant program provides financial assistance for Missouri library personnel to attend continuing education activities. This financial assistance program is funded by Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds awarded through the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal agency that fosters innovation, leadership and lifetime of learning.
LSTA grants are awarded and administered to Missouri libraries by the Missouri State Library, a department of the Office of the Secretary of State.
“It was a great opportunity to meet with other new directors and share experiences that they have had over the last year.,” said Bruner. “We got to meet with the Secretary of State, who talked about library programs, funding and how libraries are an important part of society.”
