Mexico softball continued its success in the California Tournament on Saturday.
After winning it two straight years and finishing third last year, the Lady Bulldogs were the runner-up after a 7-6 loss to St. Elizabeth (13-4). They defeated Eldon 1-0 on Friday and California 11-1 on Saturday.
Kaitlyn Krietemeyer scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning against Eldon (14-4). Keerstan Ewing pitched eight innings with two hits and two strikeouts in a game that had three combined hits.
Mexico (13-9) had 14 hits, including seven extra-base hits, against California (7-9). Hannah Loyd hit a home run, and Aleigha Henderson also hit one as part of her 2-for-4 day with four RBIs. Landri Teel went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Krietemeyer pitched five innings with five hits, three walks, two strikeouts and one unearned run.
The Lady Bulldogs fell behind 7-3 against St. Elizabeth after allowing a three-run seventh inning. They responded with three runs in the bottom half of the seventh but stranded two runners to end the game. Loyd, who finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, hit two more home runs to bring her season total to eight and give her six home runs in seven games. Teel was 3-for-4 with one RBI.
