On Monday night Ty Prince went one for two and drove in a run to help the Bulldogs rout Moberly 10-0 wearing the red and gray of Mexico proudly.
A few hours earlier, the Mexico senior had been showing off different colors – the blue and white of St. Louis Community College.
The school hosted a ceremony on Monday afternoon to celebrate Prince’s national letter of intent to continue his baseball career with SLCC. He hopes two strong seasons with the Archers will land him at a four-year school to play ball and earn a degree in civil engineering.
“I thought it would be a good fit,” Prince said. “A junior college was the route to go.”
For Mexico, Prince holds down the shortstop position, but can play third, second and pitch. He told SLCC coaches he would work his hardest wherever they put him.
“I just want to compete,” he explained. “I want to see pitchers throwing 95, guys making big plays.”
Prince is slick defensively and wields a powerful bat. This year for the Bulldogs he is hitting .303 and has four doubles, four triples and three round trippers, adding up to a whopping .621 slugging average.
In 26.2 innings pitched, he has fanned 27 while allowing 12 walks.
